Looking for Heroes

People are always looking for heroes….
Movies can do an amazing job of portraying and stirring the emotions much like a beautifully composed concerto.
The actors, music, cinematography, direction, editing can bring us to the edge of our seats in spontaneous laughter or involuntary clapping, moving our hearts to tears of satisfying joy or striking fear and having us looking deep into shadows to assure ourselves their only shadows.
Remember….
The Patriot…. when Mel Gibson's character the peaceful farmer Benjamin Martin is driven to lead the Colonial Militia during the American Revolution and is moved to protect and fight for the life of his loved ones.
Braveheart…remember when Mel Gibson's character William Wallace is being gutted because he stood up to tyranny and led a nation to stand while screaming "FREEDOM!!!!"
Cinderella Man…the hope of the little man represented in one man James Braddock portrayed by Russell Crowe during the depression to become the heavyweight champion of the World.
True Grit….John Wayne is Rooster Cogburn and meets out justice to those deserving of it.
Saving Private Ryan…Tom Hanks and others portray what it means to sacrifice your life for another during WWII.
Robin Hood Prince of Thieves….Kevin Costner as Robin Hood saving the common man from oppression and tyranny.
Lord of the Rings….a small motley crew fighting and giving their very life's to prevent evil from taking over the known world…Gandalf standing tall and yelling "YOU…SHALL...NOT…PASS"!
To write more would be repeating something that always resounds in the unseen spirits of all of us. Evil is extinguished every time it rears its ugly head; hope comes rushing in when all hope was lost. There have been many brave individuals throughout history, but inevitably my mind moves towards the thought, actually it's like a roaring wave that comes crashing through me every time. My movie mind flies to the life of Jesus Christ because time, history, scholars, theologians all agree his is the most amazing life that has pierced our history with the most staggering event that took place in our world.
He stood tall against the tyranny of the ages, he had the strength to remain silent before his lying accusers, he didn't back down when confronted by the rulers and authorities of HIS world, he took up for the weakest and guilty of not just those that lived during his time but for those in the past and future generations. He stared evil face to face, He conquered the grave, He slew the great dragon, He defied the forces of gravity, He became invisible and slipped right through the grasp of those trying to kill him, He really did fly through the air, He masterfully orchestrated the redemption and salvation of all those who choose to believe, He lived out the greatest love story of all time, by point of fact He made impossible…possible, a true hero, head and shoulders above them all.
